Even in this digital age, there is still a place for printed leaflets, brochures and data sheets. But we all know that printed assets quickly become dated and therefore unusable, often with lots of excess left over in the marketing cupboard. This isn’t a sustainable way to print, so we encourage our customers to carefully consider their printing requirements before they hit the print button.

Being an eco printer is about more than just using recycled paper – sustainable printers are defined by the social, environmental and resource practices that meet current client needs and expectations, whilst ensuring better outcomes for the future generations. In short, eco printing is about safeguarding the planet’s future so people and businesses can continue to thrive.

Harvard Business Review reports that sales revenue can increase by up to 20% due to corporate responsibility practices, and 64% of millennials will turn down a job if the company doesn’t have a robust ESG policy. Increased sales and talent attraction are some of the added benefits of being a sustainable business.

Combining your mindful management with our good business practices, we can reduce printing’s impact on the planet together.

Being an eco printer is about more than just using recycled paper!

Think before you print

The economies of scale when printing your marketing assets in bulk typically reduce the unit cost, meaning that it only costs a few pounds more to print lots more. However, this may not always work out cost-effective because if all the items aren’t used, you are essentially chucking vital marketing budget down the drain, and every penny counts!

THEMPC’s efficient print on demand service helps you avoid unnecessary waste:

  • We hold record of the assets you want to print, if required our designers can do all the artwork and update it as and when you need items printing
  • These assets are catalogued on our online merchandise management system, SwagOnline, which has live stock levels, you can instantly place reorders for additional stock as needed. It’s print on demand merchandise!
  • We hold your print in stock and ship it to where you need it to be when you need it, plus we can print and ship directly from our German hub to other European countries, reducing your carbon footprint for these destinations
  • Zero waste in landfill – you only print what you need
  • It’s ideal for coordinating assets for marketing events and campaigns

Worth the recycled paper it’s printed on

We responsibly source the paper we use and typically print on FSC materials. The FSC certification confirms that trees that the paper comes from are stringently managed in a way to conserve biological diversity and benefit the lives of local people and workers.

As we’re guided by our clients and their requests, there’s isn’t a huge demand to print on recycled materials…yet! Switching to recycled paper is an easy way to support your company’s sustainability objectives. By using paper that’s already in existence and supporting the circular economy, you will lessen your printing’s impact on the planet.

Some sustainable benefits of using recycled paper*:

  • Making recycled paper uses 50% less energy than using trees
  • When compared to the production of virgin paper 1 tonne of recycled papers can save 1.32 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.
  • Most recycled paper requires little, if any bleaching. And if needed, chlorine-free agents are used.
  • The quality of recycled paper has vastly improved over the last 30 years. Nowadays recycled materials are identical from virgin counterparts in terms of performance and look.

Of course, we can source recycled paper, so let us know if your preferred option is printing on recycled materials.

A printer telling you to think before you print - How is that good business for them?

Sustainable printing and green swag

Alongside our printing on demand capabilities, we offer a fantastic range of eco-friendly merchandise. You can show that your company cares about people and planet by choosing more sustainable merch to promote your brand.

We are currently in cahoots with a big brand to produce sustainable onboarding boxes for new employees. The corrugated presentation boxes will be filled to the brim with thoughtfully selected eco-friendly merchandise and will be posted directly to the employee in time for their start date.  Watch this space for the final product!

Sustainable business practices

Alongside our commitment to be printing more sustainably, we implement small acts which contribute to a more sustainable society such as:

  • Providing ethically sourced tea and coffee for our staff
  • Using plant-based cleaning detergents and soaps in our offices
  • Paperless billing
  • Nurturing strong relationships with local suppliers. Last year we even used a local supplier to handmake bespoke bathbombs for a client’s Christmas employee hampers!
  • Being energy efficient; nearly all of the lights in the office are now low energy LED with PIR motion sensors to ensure that the lights only switch on when the room is in use.
