TechData UK&I – Corporate Hampers

With offices shut and everyone working from home due to the UK lockdown, TechData wanted to ensure they connected with their employees as a thank you for their efforts in 2020, the UK christmas party was cancelled but these hampers left a lasting impression on their team.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, companies had to adjust quickly to the ‘new normal’ way of doing business. With employees working from home and no face-to-face customer meetings happening in their offices, one of the biggest new challenges all companies faced was how to communicate and engage with people.

As events were cancelled, virtual get togethers became a huge trend. Tech Data, one of the world’s largest technology distributors, has fully embraced this switch. Following the success of other virtual events THEMPC had collaborated with them on, they approached us to discuss proposals for a bespoke corporate hamper.

The Christmas party could not go ahead due to restrictions, so they wanted to send this gift to all employees to thank them for their commitment in 2020 and wish them a Merry Christmas. It was also their hope that recipients would engage with each other over social media with the hashtag #OurTechDataChristmas.

Following the briefing and initial calls to discuss TechData’s objectives, our team got to work looking for suitable items for the corporate hamper.

Employee engagement and wellbeing are a huge focus for TechData, so the hampers were developed with this in mind.  Variety and inclusivity were very important, so we sourced items suitable for the widest audience, such a vegan gingerbread snowflake. The bespoke hamper included both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, plus games and origami.

Our designers took TechData’s brief and designed packaging artwork, including branding for some of the items inside the hamper, such as a header card a pair socks and a bespoke cracker designed to hold 3 packs of Pringles snacks.

Having the ability to mock-up full colour packaging samples in-house means that THEMPC can really help customers see the exciting scope of what can be achieved. So that TechData could visualise the hamper before signing it off, we ordered in all the content and made a mock-up box, printed with their branding. This meant that they knew exactly what we would be delivering.

Over time, TechData’s brief evolved and we gladly adapted the proposal to get the content just right.

All the hamper packaging was produced in-house. Understanding that TechData was looking for a premium hamper with the WOW factor, we included finishes of matt lamination and spot UV to the outside of the box.

The TechData Christmas hamper campaign utilised every service that we can offer here at THEMPC. We handled all the elements of this campaign, including sourcing contents, packaging design, fulfilment, and distribution.

Using our packaging expertise, we created solution that would protect the content appropriately whilst being completely branded, inside and out, in an engaging way.

Our team ordered in over 16,000 items to go inside the boxes and all hampers were made up (including applying 9,500 strips of tape to the boxes!), ready for direct shipment to each employee’s home address in under 4 weeks from brief to fulfilment.

Positive feedback from many TechData employees was shared on LinkedIn using the hashtag #OurTechDataChristmas, meeting the objective for employee engagement on social media.

Quote from TechData employee:
