Trade Show Giveaways: quality or quantity?

When it comes to trade show giveaways, it can be difficult to decide whether to go with quality or quantity. Should you spend less per item and maximise reach, or spend more per item and give to less people in the hope that it presents your brand in a better light?

At The MPC, we think that each type of promotional product has its time and place. But for us, the main thing is to give away a quality, useful product, rather than a throwaway piece of plastic that has no benefit to the end user.

Although you might give a greater number of cheaper promotional items out, the likelihood is that you’ll end up with less brand impressions. This can be due to the item breaking, or the recipient simply throwing it away and discarding it as a ‘cheap piece of plastic.’ Picking a quality promotional product can buy you more brand impressions, since it is likely to get used more widely and for longer.

There are other things that you can do to ensure your promotional item generates great brand exposure, here are a few ideas:

If you have decided you want to create some pens that are branded with your logo, weigh up your options carefully. A cheap looking plastic pen may reflect badly on your brand and be seen as a throwaway piece of equipment, whereas a fine-looking ballpoint pen may just be classy enough to stand the test of time. Likewise, a low-quality jute bag might be useful for the duration of the trade show, but may get slung in the bin on the way out.

While a slinky or plastic dinosaur might be a great novelty item, a trade show calls for something a little more useful. Whether it’s a branded power bank or USB stick, try and pick something that will be useful for months to come.

  1. Remember your target market

When designing your perfect promotional product, always keep your target market in mind, considering things like interests, hobbies and age. Although you might think a product looks great, it might not be of interest to the people attending the trade show.
